Epclusa (sofosbuvir/velpatasvir)
Epclusa is available in the form of a tablet that is taken orally, once per day, and can be taken with or without food. One tablet will usually contain 400 milligrams of sofosbuvir and 100 milligrams of velpatasvir. This treatment is normally 12 weeks in length.
Side effects of Epclusa include fatigue and headaches.
If Epclusa is taken with ribavirin, side effects may also include nausea, diarrhea, insomnia, and anemia in addition to the headaches and fatigue.
Harvoni (ledipasvir/sofosbuvir)
This new treatment for hep C genotype 1 is available in the form of a tablet that is taken once a day. One tablet of Harvoni usually contains 90 milligrams of ledipasvir and 400 milligrams of sofosbuvir. Treatments can last up to 8, 12, or 24 weeks.
Reported side effects include headaches, fatigue, and weakness.
Olysio (simprevir) and Sovaldi (sofosbuvir)
This treatment involves taking one capsule with 150 milligrams of simeprevir and one tablet with 400 milligrams of sofosbuvir. The simeprevir capsule is taken once per day with food and the sofosbuvir tablet is taken once per day with or without food.
Side effects at the 12-week mark of the treatment include headaches, nausea, fatigue, insomnia, itching, and rash. At the 24-week mark, dizziness and diarrhea were also reported.
