A Small Business Website Needs these 5 Elements
Even if you have no intention of selling your product or services online, a business website is a necessity in this day and age.
If you are setting your website up, or just giving it a makeover, check out the 5 elements you should definitely include.
1. A Memorable Home Page
The first impression an online customer will take from your business is your website homepage. It should be clear, appealing, and really get your brand across. Ensure it features:
- What your company does
- Who it’s for
- Why you’re in business
- Why someone should become a customer
While you should always be creative and original with your homepage you should make sure you add your logo, a description of your business (this can be brief), and an easy-to-follow menu to bring visitors to important pages.
Because mobile browsing is becoming more and more popular, ensure the design of your website is easy to navigate on smartphones as well as on a desktop.
2. Easy-to-Follow Navigation
Your navigation menu should be both easy to find, and easy to use. It should have logical and relevant categories. The number 1 reason people leave websites is poor navigation. The structure should be based on questions new and existing, customers might ask
- What items or services do you sell?
- What are the price ranges of products and services?
- Where are you based and what are your hours of business?
- How can customers buy your products or services?
3. Search
A search box is probably the best feature you can add to your website. Customers can type a keyword or phrase to help them find exactly what they are looking for, or at least some relevant information if they cannot find it through the menu. The more content you have on your site related to that keyword, the more options they will have to choose from in their search results, in turn making your search bar even more beneficial.
4. Contact Information
While it might seem easier to have automated responses for customers, we all know that sometimes you just need human engagement. Including an e-mail address or phone number allows customers the reassurance that you are available if they need.
5. FAQs
This section needs to be updated regularly and is based on trial and error. The more you engage with your customers, the more you will notice patterns in information customers need. Adding these FAQs and updating the answers to be as relevant as possible will be of great use to customers.
A website is probably one of the most affordable, and easiest methods of marketing for a small business. Make sure your website leaves a good, and lasting impression on your customers.
