Call center employees may be asked to perform a multitude of the following tasks on a daily basis:
- Outbound calling to advertise a promotion
- Cold calling to sell a good or service
- Business-to-business calling
- Inbound customer service calls
- Online chatting
What Kind of Services Do Call Centers Typically Offer?
A call center can offer a large range of services, from large-scale customer service centers to survey calling. Sometimes, a call center may be responsible for calling prospective customers who have not yet purchased a good or service, in attempt to get them interested in buying.
Big companies like Best Buy, Verizon Wireless, Cox Cable, and even Chase Bank use call centers for customer service, as they receive a large influx of calls on a daily basis. These call center representatives are responsible for speaking with customers directly, answering their questions and helping them manage their products or accounts.
Call centers may also collect donations for charities or send out surveys to apply recent feedback to a new product or service. They can also take in large orders and then re-direct those orders to a local facility. For example, Pizza Hut may use a call center to take orders, and the order will then be redirected to a Pizza Hut location that is nearest to that particular customer.
What Software is Used in Call Centers?
Good software is vital to the smooth operation of a call center on a daily basis. Without the technology to manage millions of phone numbers, customer names, and important account information, there would be no way to keep track of it all. There are many software programs that are designed specifically for use in call centers.
Software designed for this cause is typically made to handle a large amount of information without breaking. The programs implemented across the centers can interact with other systems, automatically dial numbers from a list, keep a record of all conversations, and input customer data on a spreadsheet.
Some software is limited to strictly inbound or outbound calling. The type of software that a call center would want to invest in is based on the needs of the business. There is no need to invest in a costlier software that handles both inbound and outbound calls when the company is purely invested in telemarketing. Likewise, there is no need for a company
to be able to call out when they are being used strictly as a customer service hub.
